Only the Lonely

She’s all alone in her time of need
The sun has gone down and the moon’s all she sees
He’s going the distance for something he cannot define
His heart is beating so fast he’s plotted his time

But she left long ago; she left in a huff
But he keeps driving to find her, he never gives up
She’s hoping in time that her memories will fade
In his own mind, he still thinks he’ll make the grade

The chocolates, the flowers, the rings, and wine
His fighting and striving and wasting his time
He’s thinking of someone for whom he still burns
This girl in his mind who will never return
